In all things, the memories of men are short when compared to the words written by them. While it is true that some men perish, and that many fine books perish, some words survive the fires, purges, and vagrancies that time imposes on all things.

The Company of Saint George endeavors to demonstrate that renown is the principal coin of the tourneyer; that a knight's duty to strive for excellence can be demonstrated both in his successes and his responses to his failures.

Therefore have I, Earl Brion Thornbird ap Rhys, knight, begun this Grete Boke of the Company, that the feats of arms of our Companions, errants, ladies and respected bretheren in chivalry be recorded for as long as this book survives. It is my hope that the words herein might serve as another way to demonstrate the ideals we believe in through example, rather than through any kind of legislation, holding our deeds under the sharp light of debate.

Within this book the reader will find a myriad of things, many unfinished subheadings, and deeds both good and poor by the companions alongside the best deeds of our chivalric bretheren. I have doubtlessly missed much; it is my hope that others within the company, and outside of it, might contribute to this boke, that the deeds of knights in our own day might someday be remembered.
